IRIS and KinesicMouse compatibility

Hi,

I'm hoping Marcus or someone else can help or otherwise I'm screwed and won't be able to use kinesic or project Iris… As with my particular health issues I need to use them both together in order to be able to play...

Suddenly project Iris does not work for the top right one third of the screen when the kinesic mouse is open. I have been using both programs without any issues together for quite some time. Due to my illness acting up I have not played any games for a month or two. I decided to play again today only to find the above issue. Project Iris completely loses tracking and the cursor just flies around the screen when I look at either the top right or the middle top of the screen (or anywhere in that vicinity). It was also happening at the top left but I decided to try updating Tobbi eye x software to see if that would assist and the top left started working. I have made a video of the issue.

Video of the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhr5nyhf1mw

I have also made two previous videos of the system working fine together which I have uploaded previously and Marcus has put on this site:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px4Y5xEEOfI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54bGUB2qYqE

I've tried:
Recalibrating numerous times.
Updating both Tobbi eye x and kensic mouse.
Ensuring both cameras are clean
Moving the cameras so that I'm closer or further away which has no effect.

I do vaguely remember the Tobbi eye x program flashing up saying it needed an update which I downloaded and installed awhile back. And I'm not sure if I have played since then. So could it be the updated drivers perhaps? It's the only thing I can think of but I can't see any old versions of drivers/software on the Tobbi website..

Are there other people out there that are using both kinesic and project Iris together? What drivers et cetera are you using? No issues?

Hope someone can help.

Regards,

Keith.

Oh and it does the same thing when I click test eye tracking in Tobbi eye x with kinesic mouse open.

Therefore, it is definitely not a project Iris problem . It is some sort of incompatibility between kinesic mouse and Tobbi eye x that was never present before.

Perhaps the new software simply can't handle the infrared lights from the Xbox one camera where the old software could? That's the only thing I could think of so I covered the infrared lights on the Xbox one camera and the tracking worked again but of course then kinesic mouse doesn't work.

So I just did a quick check and indeed the tracking seems to be worse. I will do some further testing. For now I would also blame the tobii driver, but it is a little early to tell. Back when I have more details ...

Thanks Marcus. Your always helpful :).

Is yours as bad as mine? IE look at top right and the cursor moves violently up and down over a 15cm area? But only when the Kinect is on.

I emailed Tobbi asking for old drivers but firefox crashed when I hit send so not sure if it worked.

Hey,

yes it is pretty simmilar to your observation. In my case both of the upper corners are not tracked. I would also estimate the 15 cm radius from the top left / top right corner which is worse.

I also made a forum post in the EyeX forums about this issue:
http://developer.tobii.com/community/fo ... aitbility/

Maybe they can tell us about the changes and if it is possible to revert them. I also wouldn't be too surprised if these changes are intentional, someone seem's to have an eye on what I am doing ;)

I still have the older TobiiEyeX_1.5.0.75 installer if needed.

Would you be able to uninstall the Tobi eyex program and use the original installer file to reinstall the program and then not update the driver until after Marcus makes some corrections to kinesic mouse?

Hi,

I have uninstalled all tobii software and installed 1.0.5.75 which I had from a previous download.

There is a definite large improvement. The only area where it still jerks around and moves dynamically is when I look outside the screen area in the top middle (above my monitor by 3-5 cm in the middle which I do when scrolling up in RTS games).

Suspect that the firmware update is partially to blame. Not aware of any way to roll back the firmware.

Actually I wonder if it was always like that at the top middle. Not really sure as I don't look there too much. Works for my RTS games now.

I am pretty sure that the combination of firmware + eyeX application causes this. It is easy to install the old EyeX software, but I have not yet found a way to roll back the firmware which is stored on the device. I will give tobii support a little more time to reply, maybe they can resolve this ;)
Thank you for the hint, I will try the old eyeX driver.
